Did you know that some crystals react to water and shouldn’t be a part of a water cleanse?

Well you‘re in luck I’m here to tell you which crystal can and can’t swim.

As general rule you should only water cleanse crystals with a MOHs scale of 6 or above and never cleanse any crystals that end with ‘ite’ like pyrite or hematite which after long exposures to water can rust your crystal because of the iron content. Even though these are a general rule there are crystals that this rule doesn’t apply to so please research the stone before you decide to place in water as some may be porous stones and this is what causes it to break.

Did you know that selenite or satin spar, even though it’s a crystal that shouldn’t be placed in water, won’t dissolve straight away and will disintegrate over time? Here is a list of some crystals to not put in water:

- fluorite (especially salt water)

- selenite

- malachite

- gypsum

- Opal (Australian boulder Opal has known to be fine as it’s not porous)

- turquoise

Here is some crystal that are safe to put in water:

- pretty much all Quartz (except tangerine Quartz) please do research though

- amethyst

- carnelian (but don’t put in salt water)

- tigers eye

- aventurine

- black obsidian (this crystal will break in extreme temperatures of water though)

If you wish to use crystal in water to drink please be aware that some stones are toxic and can hurt you!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little blog on which crystals can and can’t swim.
